Traditional Embroidery Steps
Several meticulous steps are followed to embroider a Pashmina:
- Choosing a block for the motif: A finely carved walnut wood block is used as a stamp to transfer the pattern onto the shawl. Each motif—whether for the borders or the center—requires a specific block. Choosing from among hundreds of models, each carved by master woodcarvers, is a time-consuming step in itself.
- Stamping the shawl: The expert artisan dips the chosen block into ink and carefully stamps the shawl at the precise desired location, laying the foundation of the design.
- Embroidering the shawl: Once stamped, the shawl is sent to embroiderers who use multicolored silk threads to enhance the pattern. This technique creates a refined and luminous finish, adding an extra touch of elegance to every piece.
